Japanese Mini Truck Frequently Asked Questions

Mini truck in red or yellow

How do I know that I'm getting a good used minitruck?
By having 'personal' contacts in Japan and other Asian countries, we can ensure that the minitrucks we receive are in excellent condition, sound mechanically and ready for daily use.

Can I drive my mini truck on the highway?
Our minitrucks are imported for off road use, although many counties allow them on county roads, also several municipalities have already adopted or are considering ordinances which allow the use on city streets. Check with your local government for information in your area.

What kind of gas mileage can I expect with a minitruck?
The manufacture's stated claim is 40 - 50 mpg. That seems to be accurate as several of our customers have reported getting 44 - 48 mpg. with normal everyday use. Of course your mileage may vary, for example, if you are primarily doing vertical rock climbing, probably won't get so good mileage.

Are mini trucks easy to drive?
Short answer, Yes, very easy. My wife who had never driven a standard was able to get the hang of it in about ten minutes. A 12 year old neighbor kid who had driven farm equipment got in and just drove like there was nothing to it.

Are all minitrucks 4wd?
No, 2wd models are available also. These have smaller wheels and tires, have a smoother ride and usually do not have the lift kits installed. 2wd models work best on the pavement. The 4wd models can be driven in 2wd as they have the controls in the cab.

I see container shipments much cheaper on some auction sites, why would I be better off buying through Mid-America Imports?
This is a very good question and an area where many 'would be' volume buyers fall into an expensive trap. What many auction buyers have found is that in a container(7 to 8 minitrucks) there is usually a couple of minitrucks in 'good' condition, a couple that is slightly worse but may be driveable and a few that are basically useable for parts only. So you may end up with 3-4 driveable mini trucks but the rest of your money is wasted. In this case, often times the cost per minitruck can be equal to or more than the retail price on the lot. Buyers who find themselves in this situation almost never have any recourse to get a refund or replacement.

Buying volume or container lots through Mid-America Imports avoids all those problems. Because of our personal contacts, and we mean personal as in we actually know who we are working with overseas, all of our minitrucks are vetted to our highest standards before they are ever purchased. Then 90% of the reconditioning is done there by trained personnel and only after the reconditioning is done are they loaded into containers for shipment to the US. This means that 100% of the minitrucks you would get in a volume purchase are going to be ready to drive when you receive them.
